No builders were required for this conversion of an existing car garage into a semi permanent lockdown studio.
The philosophy of the design is that the garage can be returned to use as a garage and no trace of the use as a studio would be evident.
The studio is inserted into the existing garage with no amendments to the original buildings’ structure or fabric. Plywood furniture is constructed and sits on a sheathing ply lining to floors and ceiling. A new timber stud wall and new doorway fill the old garage door opening. The transient work space is protected against water ingress and damp, with a damp proof membrane and a liquid applied d.p.c. to the ground and vapour and breather membranes to the roof. All new inserts are insulated to provide a warm dry workspace.
