"The accommodation consists of a double garage with a games room, shower/wc and a kitchenette- a large window opens the games room to the garden.
To design a new timber framed outbuilding in the context of a rural village on the English/ Welsh border we chose corrugated 'iron' as the cladding material to follow the traditional vernacular of cladding outbuildings in different less expensive materials. A tradition not seen so much these days in an era of over reliance on red bricks for all occasions resulting in a loss of a 'sense of place' of the rural village.
We initially suggested (hoped) that the corrugated cladding should be green as this is one of the 3 traditional colours for corrugated cladding in these settings for a rural outbuilding- Unfortunately our client settled for an even more 'vernacular' solution - feather edge timber cladding to the walls but kept the corrugated cladding to the roof, albeit black.
