Mews House

New Build

Hope Street, Liverpool.

We were appointed by a local businessman for the design of a new build mews house on a small plot of land at the rear of a Georgian terrace to provide two bedroomed accommodation that was private and secure for the owner's wife.

The plot is to the rear of a Grade II listed Georgian Terrace to Hope Street in a conservation area in Liverpools Georgian Quarter.

The design is an attempt to mediate between order and disorder between the front and back streets. We proposed bricks because they are the traditional building material in this area. Because it is a corner site we selected contrasting black bricks to give it greater presence than its size suggests. For privacy and security the house could in effect be sealed off to the street and rely on light from tiny courtyards within the buildings footprint

Unfortunately the scheme remains unbuilt due to a change in client circumstance. The project came to the attention of the T.V. show Grand designs who expressed an interest to follow the building on site.
